At smyat.ai, artificial intelligence helps make splitting bills faster and easier. This page explains how AI is used within the Service, what information is processed, and where its limitations are.

Why We Use AI

Restaurant receipts come in thousands of different formats, languages, fonts, and layouts.

Traditional OCR alone is often unable to accurately identify:

Artificial intelligence helps transform raw receipt text into a structured bill that users can review and edit.

How Receipt Processing Works

When you upload a receipt, the processing generally follows these steps:

1. The receipt image is securely uploaded.
2. OCR extracts the visible text.
3. AI analyzes the extracted information.
4. Items, prices, and totals are organized into a structured bill.
5. The processed bill is returned to the application.
6. Users can review and edit the extracted information before sharing or splitting the bill. The exact processing steps may evolve as the Service improves.

What Information May Be Processed

Depending on the receipt, AI processing may include information such as:

• merchant name
• receipt text
• purchased products
• quantities
• prices
• discounts
• taxes
• totals
• currencies
• receipt timestamps

The system processes only the information necessary to provide the requested functionality.

Human Review

Receipt processing is fully automated.

We do not routinely review uploaded receipts.

Access to receipt data is limited to authorized personnel only when reasonably necessary, for example:

• investigating technical problems;
• responding to a support request initiated by you;
• maintaining the security and integrity of the Service;
• complying with legal obligations.

AI Is Not Perfect

Although modern AI significantly improves receipt recognition, mistakes can happen.

Examples include:

• incorrectly recognized products;
• missing items;
• merged or split lines;
• incorrect prices;
• misidentified currencies;
• incomplete receipt interpretation.

For this reason, users should always verify extracted information before relying on it. The final responsibility for confirming the accuracy of a bill remains with the user.

No Automated Decision-Making

The AI used by smyat.ai does not make legal, financial, medical, employment, insurance, credit, or other decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

The Service simply assists users in organizing receipt information.

All important decisions remain under the user's control.

Your Control

You remain in control of your data.

You can:

• review extracted items;
• correct AI mistakes;
• manually edit bills;
• assign items to participants;
• delete bills;
• delete your account.

The Service is designed to support user oversight rather than replace it.

Data Minimization

We aim to process as little personal data as possible.

Receipt images are used only for processing the requested bill.

Uploaded receipt images are automatically deleted no later than 7 days after upload.

This retention period allows users to collaborate on recently created bills while minimizing long-term storage of personal data.

Third-Party AI Providers

To provide AI-powered receipt recognition, smyat.ai may use carefully selected third-party AI providers.

These providers process information solely for the purpose of delivering the requested functionality and under appropriate contractual and legal safeguards.

Current providers include OpenAI.

Our providers may change over time as technology evolves or service quality improves.

AI Training

Receipt images and extracted bill data submitted through smyat.ai are not intentionally provided by us for training public AI models.

Where third-party AI providers are used, processing is performed in accordance with our contractual arrangements and applicable privacy commitments.

Security

AI processing takes place within a secure infrastructure designed to protect user information.

We implement technical and organizational measures including:

• encrypted data transmission;
• authenticated access;
• infrastructure security controls;
• restricted internal access;
• automatic deletion of temporary receipt images.

Continuous Improvement

We continuously improve our receipt recognition models and processing pipeline.

Improvements may include:

• better handling of damaged or low-quality receipts;
